Daniel Ricciardo: I want to earn a place in the team

Daniel Ricciardo drives for Visa RB on a one-year contract, but formally he was ‘loaned’ by Red Bull Racing to the Faenza team.

At the same time, he has repeatedly said that his ultimate goal is to try to return to the “senior” team, for which he played from 2014 to 2018. and achieved seven victories. But now the Australian has made it clear he would like to stay at Visa RB next season.

“According to my feelings today, everything is exactly like this. Driving gives me pleasure, and the results don’t have much influence on that,” Speedcafe quoted Daniel. – Of course, I don’t just want to be on this team – I want to earn this spot, and let’s hope the team wants to work with me too.

But would it be more fun if I could compete for higher positions, for podiums and victories? Doubtless. However, the point is this – now I will talk about myself in the third person: why did Daniel Ricciardo return after last year’s break, which lasted several months? Because I believe I can get on the podium again, I can win races again.

Ultimately, that’s what it’s all about. As long as I have confidence in myself, I will continue to enjoy performing. But until I decide to retire, I would like to be on the podium a few more times.”

However, so far Ricciardo’s results have left a lot to be desired, and there are already talks that he could be replaced by Visa RB reserve driver Liam Lawson even before the summer holidays. However, these rumors have already been refuted by both the team and the New Zealander’s management. Of course, Ricciardo admits that he needs to make improvements as quickly as possible, but emphasizes that he does not feel any extra pressure.

“I want the people who support me to be proud of me. And the point here is not even that I have to prove anything,” said Ricciardo. “I would like to remind some people that a few races do not define a career as a whole. I can’t say that I was in a difficult situation, that I don’t have self-confidence. I just want to prove to myself that I can perform regularly like I did last year in Mexico City.

Last year in Mexico City, Daniel set the 4th fastest time in qualifying, in the first half of the race he was in the top five for a long time, but ultimately finished seventh. In 2024 he has not yet managed to rise above 12th place.
