The Mercedes team has nothing to brag about this season, but leader Toto Wolff is optimistic about a return to China…
Toto Wolff: “The return to China is an important moment for our sport. As the world’s largest auto market and second-largest economy, China is crucial to the sport’s global presence. Formula 1 has shown positive growth in recent years and China is an important market in which we can continue this development.
We look forward to hosting the race in Shanghai for the first time in five years and bringing Formula 1 back to the Chinese fans. I’m sure it will be a fantastic event with a full audience.
New cars, new tires and new asphalt since our last race in China are different variables. In addition, the first weekend of this year we will have a sprint on Saturday, which will bring its own difficulties. We just had training to find the optimal settings.
Results don’t always tell the story of your performance, but we made significant progress with the car in Japan and we look forward to building on that this weekend.”
