Esteban Ocon: Visiting China is like traveling to a new circuit

Alpine hasn’t had the best start to the season, but Esteban Ocon is happy to be back in Shanghai…

Esteban Ocon: “The race in Japan proved difficult for the team. The car looked better in qualifying and I managed to get back into the second session, but we didn’t have enough pace in the race. The new products we brought to Suzuka met expectations and I know the team will continue to work on improving the car’s performance.

Visiting China this weekend is like going to a new track: five years have passed since the last race in Shanghai. I’ve been working on the simulator at Enstone to prepare for the weekend with Saturday’s sprints and just one practice session. It was interesting to try out different settings.

Shanghai has an interesting combination of slow, medium and fast corners, and there is also a kilometer straight. This circuit requires a compromise between downforce in the corners and drag on the straight.

I’m happy to be back in China, I used to love racing there. I look forward to seeing many Chinese fans in the stands!”
