Before the Chinese Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo denied rumors that he would get two more races, threatening to be fired if he did not succeed, as was recently the case with Nyck de Vries.
Daniel Ricciardo: “I’ve never heard of an ultimatum. Anything can happen, I have no illusions about that, but so far there are no signs of a possible dismissal. My team and I communicate every day, I wish I knew something about this. Maybe it’s my experience, because last year I showed good speed, which wasn’t always noticeable at McLaren.
The team was happy to have me back. For some reason the results this year leave much to be desired, but they know the speed is there. We just have to sort everything out.
Now we return to the previous mutual understanding, the work continues. I am not a beginner trying to gain a foothold in the sport and prove something. I have a track record, I have proof of my worth. The team believes in me and my capabilities, together we do everything we can to achieve more. I don’t want this to last all year and I don’t expect it to last that long. Like I said, I’m not a newbie.”
