The watch collection of seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher is being offered for sale by auction house Christie’s.
Over the years of racing in Formula 1, Michael has amassed a large collection, and now his family has decided to auction off eight chronographs. The auction will take place on May 13 in Geneva, Switzerland. The total estimated value of the watches up for auction is estimated at $4.8 million.
About half of the total price comes from the platinum watch FP Journe Vagabondage 1, which is expected to sell for $2.2 million. Other watches for sale include a Paul Newman Daytona from Rolex for $440,000 and an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak for $280,000.
Interestingly, Michael Schumacher received a gold Royal Oak chronograph as a Christmas gift from then Ferrari team leader Jean Todt in 2003.
The following year, Todt presented Schumacher with a custom-made Vagabondage 1 – the bright red dial features images symbolizing Michael’s seventh world championship title, which he won with Ferrari in 2004.
