For Alex Albon and Logan Sargent, qualifying for Saturday’s sprint in Shanghai ended in the first session. Both Williams drivers complained about low tire grip.
Alex Albon (18th): “Difficult session. I went first when the track was still very muddy, which led to tire damage. At the end of the first session I tried to do another fast lap, but at that point the tires stopped working and I had no grip.
I don’t know if it was possible to reach the second part today, but thanks to the car’s potential we can count on more. We see the upcoming sprint as a new session where we can learn more about the car before we start qualifying.”
Logan Sargent (20th): “Just like in Japan, I have mixed feelings today. I feel like I did well, but unfortunately I’m last on the grid. I feel like I could have gotten a little more out of the car, but I think everyone can say that.
The track was very slippery and there was no grip. There is a lot of work to do in the evening. The good news is that after the sprint the park is lifted and we can make some changes to the car.
The upcoming sprint is an opportunity to gather information that will be useful in the race. Furthermore, we will understand where we can improve our qualifications.”
