Carlos Sainz apologized for touching his teammate’s car

Carlos Sainz finished fifth in the sprint of the Chinese Grand Prix. In the final laps, the Spanish driver had two contacts with his rivals: Fernando Alonso and Charles Leclerc. Carlos called Alonso’s actions optimistic and apologized for contact with his partner.

Carlos Sainz: “I had a good start and put a lot of pressure on Max Verstappen in the first laps because I knew if I overtook him I would have a good chance of winning. Probably because of this I overloaded the tires, which meant I had to keep a close eye on the condition of the tires for the remaining laps before the finish.

As for Fernando, I think I did a very good maneuver in turn seven. I think he made it all or nothing after that into Turn 9, but his actions cost us both the race. My car was damaged and my tires were very dirty. It was an optimistic maneuver on his part.

After that, my car was constantly sliding due to the damage sustained. I did everything I could to maintain my position, and in the episode with Charles I went beyond what was acceptable – I apologize for that. Today he and I both fought as hard as we could. I did everything I could to keep the car under control.”
