Aston Martin hopes to review Alonso’s fine

Aston Martin exercised its right to request a review of the decision of Chinese Grand Prix stewards, who fined Fernando Alonso for a collision with Carlos Sainz that occurred during Saturday’s sprint at Turn 9 of the Shanghai circuit.

At the time, the two Spanish drivers were battling for third position, but contact between their cars forced Alonso to retire, while Sainz finished fifth.

The stewards, who had investigated the circumstances of the incident, decided that the collision had been caused by the actions of the Aston Martin driver, for which he was not only given a 10-second penalty, but also given three penalty points.

But before the Miami Grand Prix, the FIA confirmed that the Silverstone team had exercised its right to review that decision, and the rehearing would take place in two stages.

On Friday morning, May 3, representatives from Aston Martin and Ferrari will have to communicate with the stewards again, but via video conference. The FIA press release stated: “The hearing will be organized in two phases: the first part will be devoted to establishing whether there is in fact “new material and important elements that were not available at the time of the decision.” ”

In the event that the stewards, in accordance with Article 14.3 of the International Sporting Code, determine that such elements exist, a second part of the hearing will take place, the time of which will be announced separately.”
