The former Formula 1 driver, Ayrton Senna’s partner at Williams, spoke on Sky Sport F1 about the Brazilian who died thirty years ago…
Damon Hill: “In every era there is someone who changes the sport, and Ayrton was one of those people. He changed our sport, changed our approach. He was much more aggressive, much more driven, almost to the point of madness, and his incredible self-confidence inspired everyone around him.
When Ayrton came to Formula 1, it was a shock to the system. He was very brave. I think that’s why everyone wanted to see him on their team. They knew that this man would give everything to win, that he would get the absolute maximum out of the car.
Sometimes things went wrong, sometimes he went too far, but the fans loved him and he was a huge symbol of hope and success for Brazilians and people around the world.
He didn’t come to Formula 1 for fun, he was extremely serious and completely focused on results, which was sometimes even scary. He was a real racer and a real person.”
