Red Bull technical chief Adrian Newey will leave the Austrian Formula 1 team in the first quarter of 2025, according to the Red Bull website.
The statement said he will step back from his Formula 1 car design duties to focus on the development of Red Bull’s first hypercar, the RB17.
Earlier, Sky Sports learned that Newey had informed Red Bull bosses of his desire to leave his post. The 65-year-old specialist has worked with the team since 2006. During this period, the team has won the constructors’ championship six times and has also won 118 races.
— Ever since I was a child, I wanted to design fast cars. My dream was to become a Formula 1 engineer and I was lucky enough to make this dream come true. It has been a huge honor for me to play an important role in the development of Red Bull over almost two decades, as the team has grown from beginners to multiple champions.
However, I now feel that the time has come to pass the baton to others and seek new challenges for myself. “We are now in the final stages of development of the RB17, so the remaining time I spend with the team will be dedicated to this project,” Newey said.
