At the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Haas team brought an updated car, already dubbed the “white Ferrari” in the paddock due to its suspicious resemblance to the Scuderia car. Haas chief Gunther Steiner did not deny that his engineers were guided by F1-75.
“I will say that we were quite inspired by their concept,” Danish Ekstra quoted Bladet Steiner as saying. “But what’s wrong with that?” If someone says we copied the car, I’ll answer, “Why should we copy Williams?” I don’t want to sound disrespectful, but they have a very different concept and their car is slower than ours.
If you copy, copy the best, and now Ferrari and Red Bull are the best. We use a Ferrari engine, gearbox and suspension and they win races. Why should we copy others? One plus one is always two.
I expect our car to be fast. I hope the telemetry data will confirm our expectations. In Hungary we will be able to compare the updated and the previous car. If the data shows that we have made the right choice, then it comes down to finding the right settings.”
