Miami Grand Prix: stage preview

It appears that the accident in Tamburello occurred yesterday, on the same warm and sunny day as the day before. In the broadcast, a Williams FW16, thrown from a concrete wall, suddenly froze in a cloud of dust. The race was stopped, doctors arrived and a helicopter arrived. No one believed the worst, but in the evening the news announced that Ayrton Senna was no longer with us, with the recording of the fatal accident repeated over and over.

Thirty years have passed. Our lives and the world around us have changed irreversibly. Every year we commemorate Senna on May 1, not just because he is a racing driver. For many in the world, Senna was a symbol of hope for a better future, which changed with his death. But he remained in our memories the same symbol of hope. The last romantic.

The race around the stadium was Liberty Media’s favorite for a short time, but remains interesting in its own way. The new owners of Formula 1 prepared for a long time, changed the configuration several times, sued the authorities and finally achieved their goal: the Miami stage was the first that they organized independently.

This Grand Prix replaced Monaco – it is easier and closer to invite American partners and sponsors to Miami. There are prestigious hotels for every taste, and more entertainment. Great view, comfortable seats, beautiful TV picture. Even the marina is like in Monaco, albeit painted. But in the fall, the Las Vegas race became Liberty Media’s favorite. And there can only be one favorite.

For the fourth time in Formula 1 history, three Grand Prix will be held in one country. This happened twice in the US and in 2020 three stages were held in Italy: in Monza, Mugello and Imola due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Miami Grand Prix completes a series of six away legs; In two weeks, Formula 1 will return to Europe, where the schedule will become even busier. Apart from the break in Canada, there will be many races every week.

We are waiting for the second stage of this season with a sprint on Saturday and the first with a night schedule. Saturday qualifying and Sunday’s race start at 11 p.m. Moscow time.

The fate of this year’s title has already been decided, but the personnel survey is getting more interesting every week. And if there were no changes at all before the start of this season, now they occur almost daily.

The year started with Hamilton announcing his impending move to Ferrari. Carlos Sainz appeared on the market, Nico Hulkenberg signed a contract with Sauber, there are rumors that the Miami stage could be Logan Sargent’s last with Williams. And now Newey has left Red Bull. Such large-scale reshuffles give hope for a change in the balance of power next year, which Formula 1 has long lacked.

Just like thirty years ago, we live in hope of a better future.

Let’s stock up on coffee. The night phase is just around the corner.
