Schumacher: Red Bull can drop to the level of the middle farmers

The big news about Adrian Newey’s impending departure from Red Bull is one that everyone knew about in advance. But Auto Bild noted one very specific point: according to the German publication, the press release dedicated to the separation of the aerodynamic genius from the champion team would initially be published on April 30.

Reportedly, Newey did not want the publication date of the news to coincide with the thirtieth anniversary of the death of Ayrton Senna, who was involved in a fatal accident at Imola while driving a Williams FW16 designed by a Briton. However, everything happened on May 1, which can be considered a “gesture of ill will” by Christian Horner, head of Red Bull Racing.

This again speaks to the state of the relationship between Christian Horner and Newey, who were once not only colleagues, but also good friends.

Ralf Schumacher, a former Formula 1 driver, has repeatedly spoken out very harshly against Horner and now shared a very gloomy prediction in an interview with DPA: “I believe this is just the beginning of a new period in the history of Red Bull, because this is not the last dismissal. I can well imagine that a number of other specialists will also leave along with Newey.

And if events develop according to this scenario, it seems to me that this team could drop to the level of mid-level farmers once the new technical regulations come into force in 2026.”

Ralf also touched on another topic: the prospects of his cousin Mick Schumacher, who dreams of returning to Formula 1 and would like to become Nico Hulkenberg’s partner in the future Audi factory team: “He must try every opportunity that presents itself occurs to utilize. Mick deserves another chance.

Frank Williams and Eddie Jordan would have kicked out a driver like Logan Sargent a long time ago. I believe Mick has potential, also compared to some drivers currently competing in Formula 1.”

Apparently Ralph is alluding to the aforementioned Sargent, as well as Gongyu Zhou – both only got into the championship thanks to their sponsors’ money.

“Mick is currently racing for Alpine in endurance racing, where he is in good hands and doing a great job,” continued Schumacher. “But we’ll see how everything turns out in the future.” Certainly, some events will still occur. However, as far as you can understand, Carlos Sainz is considered the most preferred candidate at Audi.”
