The safety car is being converted to biofuel

From the Miami Grand Prix onwards, the safety car and the medical car will run on new fuel, which consists of 40% environmentally friendly fuel. The transition to new fuel is taking place as part of Formula 1’s Net Zero 2030 strategy, which means the world championship must be environmentally neutral by 2030.

The use of environmentally friendly fuel in the safety car and medical car is the latest innovation in the championship. The current hybrid powertrains in Formula 1 cars run on E10 fuel, which consists of 10% renewable ethanol.

From the beginning of 2023, Formula 2 and Formula 3 cars will run on fuel that consists of 55% renewable elements. In 2026, Formula 1 will switch to a new generation of power plants that will run on 100% environmentally friendly fuel.
