Before the start of the race weekend in Miami, it was announced that Sauber decided to change racing engineer Valtteri Bottas. At a press conference in Miami, the Finnish racer said that the replacement of the engineer, whose name he did not mention, was a surprise to him.
Valtteri Bottas: “The reason for replacing the race engineer? This is more of a question for the team, not for me. Quite a sudden change and working with a new engineer during a sprint weekend won’t be easy, but I’ll still try to make the best of it. I will be very supportive, but as I said, the replacement is unexpected.
As far as I know, the replacement took place as part of the restructuring of the team: someone leaves, someone joins us. A lot of what’s happening now is beyond my control.”
Commenting on Nico Hulkenberg’s contract with Sauber, Valtteri said: “The contract was announced quite early, which was a bit of a surprise. The pilot market has started to move. Obviously Nico is German and Audi wanted a German driver for their team, so everything is fine. Let’s see how events develop further.
I negotiate with many teams; some are at a more advanced stage of negotiations than others. Let’s see”.
