Sergio Perez: Red Bull will stay in shape after Newey’s departure

The day before it was announced about Adrian Newey’s departure from Red Bull Racing. Many have already suggested that in Newey’s absence the team’s results will inevitably decline, but at the FIA press conference in Miami, Sergio Perez expressed confidence that this will not happen.

Sergio Perez: “There is of course nothing good when a specialist of Adrian’s level leaves the team. Besides, he is my good friend, we spent time together, but such things happen in life. He worked at Red Bull for twenty years and probably wanted to do something different.

Red Bull will still be in top form. We have a very strong organization, including engineers and aerodynamicists, so we look to the future with confidence. When someone leaves a big team, even if it is a famous person, the team continues to be successful. Success does not depend on one person, but on the entire organization.

Christian Horner has done a great job preparing for the day when someone important decides to leave. We are a large organization where many other specialists work alongside the key employees.”

When asked if he thought Max Verstappen would follow Newey in leaving Red Bull Racing, Sergio said: “I don’t think so, because everyone is fully committed to the team. We are having another great season and the team has a bright future ahead of it.

Of course, employees come and go, but our team remains strong. I don’t think there will be any further changes in this area.”

Speaking about the 2025 contract, Perez noted that this issue is not a priority for him now: “You can’t think you have a contract until all the papers are signed. But right now the contract is not my main priority.

Things started happening quite early in this year’s driver market, following the news of Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari. After that, everyone started looking for the best options for themselves, but I believe that signing a contract in my case is a matter of time. Now the priority is preparing for the races and the races themselves.”
