Eight of the ten championship teams have prepared technical innovations for the Miami round, and the McLaren MCL38 received the most extensive updates.
McLaren
The list of improvements presented to the FIA by the Woking team is quite long, including a completely revised front wing and an improved MCL38 underbody.
The list consists of 10 items and in addition to the front wing and underbody, it also includes the front suspension, whose geometry has been adjusted, improved air ducts for the front and rear brakes and a revised configuration of the side pontoon intakes.
The rear suspension has also been improved, as has an optional rear wing, the design of which has been adapted to the specific requirements of the Miami circuit.
Red Bull racing
The champion team reported the only change: it concerned the underside of the RB20 and is not even aimed at increasing aerodynamic efficiency, but at reducing weight and increasing the reliability of the car as a whole.
Mercedes
The W15 sees minor changes made to the underbody, including the edges, and generally these changes are aimed at increasing downforce and improving the quality of the flow delivered to the rear of the car and the diffuser led.
Additional fins have been added to the motor housing for more efficient cooling.
The configuration of the adjustable element of the front wing has been slightly modified: this has been done to reduce the aerodynamic load, which in particular allows the use of a smaller rear wing on the Miami circuit.
Some elements of the front suspension have undergone minor changes: the pushrod fairing has been oriented differently, which improves the quality of the airflow directed towards the rear of the car.
Aston Martin
On AMR24 machines, additional holes have appeared through which air flows into the cockpit – this is done to create more comfortable conditions for riders.
The profile of the adjustable front fender element has become less aggressive. This makes it possible to reduce the aerodynamic load on the front of the car in proportion to the reduction in the angle of attack of the rear wing, in accordance with the characteristics of the American circuit.
At the rear of the engine housing, the size of the outlet for the airflow coming from the cooling system has been increased.
Williams
The geometry of the last element of the front wing has been changed, allowing to reduce the aerodynamic load and adjust the balance, taking into account the characteristics of the Miami circuit.
Visa RB
The team from Faenza did not limit themselves to changing the color scheme of the car – some improvements were made to the front part of the VCARB 01 underbody and the configuration of the partitions separating the Venturi tunnels was changed, making it possible to increase the efficiency of this part of the car.
The area through which air enters the diffuser has also been redesigned, increasing downforce and improving airflow quality.
Sauber
Sauber has prepared the front rear wings for the Miami round with a slightly modified configuration in accordance with the circuit’s characteristics, which require a lower level of downforce.
Hare
The diffuser geometry has become more aggressive, with a small Gurney flap at the rear, providing better airflow control and more downforce in this part of the car.
Ferrari and Alpine have not announced any new products.
