Adrian Newey confirmed on Sky Sports that he decided to part ways with Red Bull Racing because he was simply fed up with the stress of Formula 1.
Adrian Newey: “I have had an amazing 18-year journey with this team and I can honestly say that when I joined the team I had no idea how much success we would achieve. It was an absolutely wonderful time!
But Formula 1 requires complete self-denial, and I have been working with it for a long time. I don’t know, but it seemed to me that there came a moment when I felt a little tired. To be honest, this started a while ago. I was thinking about this during the winter off-season, and then events took such a turn this year that I made a decision…
I am very lucky, I can afford not to work, but I do this because working gives me pleasure. It’s time to retire, take a break, spend some time with travel, family and my dogs, and just enjoy life.
Maybe after a while I will think that it is time to take up a new project, but for now I have no such plans … “
