Leclerc: I have proven that I am doing well

Charles Leclerc is satisfied with the second time in qualifying for the sprint in Miami. His Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz posted the fifth fastest time and said the car’s behavior had strangely changed from practice.

Charles Leclerc (2nd): “We were behind in qualifying for two stages in a row. In China everything went a little better, but the car did not allow us to demonstrate it.

In the morning during practice I only did one fast lap, so I had to go all out in qualifying. In the first session we only had one set of tires, which was not easy, but I immediately felt that the hard work throughout the season, aimed at getting the tires into working range quickly, had certainly paid off.

I am satisfied with the result. I was criticized, but it is good if we move from words to actions. In Formula 1, everyone remembers your last result. If you don’t manage to qualify for two races in a row, conversations arise, but today I proved that I’m doing well. Now we have to increase our stability and consistently perform at this level, then all the talk will stop.”

Carlos Sainz (5th): “During qualifying for the sprint, the car’s behavior strangely changed compared to the first practice. I had serious problems with the grip, which prevented me from completing the circle. We have to find out the reasons because I had problems throughout qualifying.

After switching to Soft I managed to do a good lap, but I made a mistake in Turn 17. Of course I’m not happy, but I hope we can solve everything in Saturday’s qualifying.

I don’t know how fast the car will be in the sprint. Everything was good in practice, but not in qualifying. First you have to run a sprint and then draw conclusions.”
