Daniel Ricciardo set the fourth fastest time in qualifying for the sprint in Miami and managed to reach the top ten for the first time this season. The RB rider is satisfied with the result and thinks that the situation is gradually turning in his favor.
Riccardo’s teammate Yuki Tsunoda did not qualify as strongly and only set the fifteenth fastest time.
Daniel Ricciardo (4th): “I knew I had speed, but did I expect to get a starting spot on the second row? I didn’t think the result would be so good.
I rode well in the second part and knew my time was enough to reach the final. I think I was fifth and thought, “It would be fun to do that again in the final.” And then he took fourth place.
I did good laps, but Miami is a difficult circuit where it is not easy to do everything right. I hit the wall on both laps, but I really attacked. I am proud of my result, but we cannot forget the work of the team, which has brought new products in the last few races.
In China they changed my chassis, but here I got a new bottom. Apparently things are starting to change for me. It’s great to start from the first positions.”
Yuki Tsunoda (15th): “In the first part of qualifying for the sprint the car was fast, but in the end I couldn’t get the most out of it. We only attempted one run in the second session, but I wasn’t able to set a fast lap.
In retrospect, two quick attempts would have been better. In any case, the speed of the car gives me confidence for the rest of the weekend.”
