AlphaTauri riders Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda set a fifteenth and nineteenth time in the second practice session of the Hungarian Grand Prix. Problems with speed, the cause of which has not yet been found, is not hidden by the team.
Pierre Gasly (15th): “I’m quite happy with my lap in the second practice, but in terms of speed we’re not in the positions we want. The car is slipping too much – let’s see what can be changed before tomorrow to go faster.
I can’t say there are major balance issues – I felt I was attacking to the limit and doing a fast lap, but the time in the protocol doesn’t reflect this, so in the evening it’s necessary for the reasons.
Judging by the weather forecast, we are waiting for a rain qualifying, but I love to race in such conditions. Hopefully we will find a solution that makes the car faster, but a little rain won’t stop us.”
Yuki Tsunoda (19th): “Today I felt like we were taking a step back from the stage in France, where the car was fast. In Hungary the balance is far from ideal – I have serious problems and in the evening we have to find a solution together with the engineers to add Saturday.
It looks like we’re going to have a rain qualifying session, but I don’t know if that’s good or bad for us, depending on what we can discover tonight and how fast we are in the third session.”
