George Russell takes Ed Sheeran for a spin on the Miami freeway

Show business stars are frequent guests in the Formula 1 paddock, and in Miami all attention is focused on Ed Sheeran, the British singer and songwriter, one of the most popular musicians in the world, winner of four Grammy awards.

Yesterday, on the day of his concert at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Sheeran spoke to Max Verstappen, to Charles Leclerc, and not just to George Russell – the Mercedes driver took him for a ride around the track in a powerful AMG GT R sports car with a 4-liter engine

“I have seen all the episodes of the documentary series Drive to Survive and most of the people I know really like it, and now they are also interested in Formula 1,” Ed explained his interest in motorsport. “And although Formula 1 is a big circus, it is so cool here, because there is so much happening here!”

When Sheeran was a passenger in George Russell’s “racing taxi”, he had a lot of fun, couldn’t hide his joy and was clearly impressed by the Mercedes driver’s skill. “How do you do all this at speeds under 300 km/h?” – he was amazed when George took turns sending the car into a controlled slide that demolished all four wheels.

“If you do that in a Formula 1 car, it’s not a good sign,” Russell explained. “Now we did that at a speed of about 150 km/h, but in Formula 1 this corner must be taken at a speed of about 210 km/h.”

“Will the tires on this car be replaced after we drive like this?” – asked the artist. “I hope they change,” George replied cheerfully. “But I don’t know who will drive this car after us.” Well, did you like it?”

“Thanks, it was cool! I even started sweating! I can’t imagine how you manage all this! – Ed thanked and peppered his comments with such emotional turns of phrase that almost all of them had to be bleeped out. “The worst part for me was accelerating, because when we started to slow down I thought it was safer!”

“And this race probably gave me even more pleasure than qualifying in Formula 1,” Russell summarized.
