In Miami, Max Verstappen won another qualification, but again made it clear that the car did not behave optimally in one fast lap.
Max Verstappen (1st): “We certainly managed to improve the car a bit. I don’t know what this is related to, but every year when we come to this circuit I am confronted with the fact that it is very difficult for me to achieve stable driving sensations and stable tire performance in one fast lap.
Here it is extremely difficult to achieve the correct passage of the first sector and the third sector at the end of the circle. It’s incredibly difficult to get everything straight, and today it was important to find the right balance. I think we managed it, although I can’t say it was very fun driving because the track was very slippery and I didn’t have much confidence. Nevertheless, we are on pole and that is the most important thing.
But it feels like we can control the race pace better, and that’s what we’ll strive for. I hope this will help us tomorrow. We know what exactly I didn’t do right at the start of the sprint and I’m sure that if I do everything right that depends on me tomorrow, everything should turn out fine.”
Sergio Perez: (4th): “Qualifying was quite difficult. Unfortunately I couldn’t make a clean first attempt in the last session, even though the track condition was optimal in my opinion. And then I made a small mistake in Turn 8, which cost me at least the front row of the grid, if not pole position.
It’s a shame we weren’t able to fully utilize the car’s potential, but I’m optimistic. It turned out to be so, because the results are very compact, but we must admit that we did not do everything correctly when choosing the settings, so now we need to understand how to act to solve the problem.
It will be difficult to stay ahead of Ferrari during the race, their cars have excellent pace, but I’m looking forward to an interesting battle.”
