Penalties after the Miami Grand Prix

In 2014, the FIA introduced a system of penalty points for drivers involved in incidents or who broke the rules. If a driver achieves 12 points within 12 months, he will be disqualified from participating in the race. Penalty points expire 12 months after collection.

The Miami Grand Prix was not the richest in terms of penalty points this season – 7 against 11 in Shanghai, but one of the drivers reached a dangerous line.

Kevin Magnussen received five points at once in Miami, a total of 10 points over the past 12 months, and these will not expire until March 9, 2025. That is, if the Danish Haas F1 driver gets two more points before then, he will have to miss the next race. There have never been such cases in Formula 1, but there have been in the youth series.
