Sebastian Vettel Starting from 9th position gives us a chance

Sebastian Vettel reached the qualifying final for the first time this season and this can be seen as an encouraging sign for the entire Aston Martin team.

Sebastian Vettel (9th): “I am satisfied with how we worked today. For the first time in 2022 I reached the final of qualifying and for the first time this year both our cars made it to the second session – this is the result of the efforts of the whole team.

I didn’t immediately feel confident in the car, but on the first try in the second session I was already comfortably behind the wheel. In the final I only did one normal lap. On the second attempt I braked late and ended up in the 2nd turn of the track, and then red flags appeared on the track.

It’s a shame we had a bit of bad luck towards the end, but from 9th position in Saturday’s sprint we have a chance of a good result.”

Lance Walk (15th): “Although I got out of the fight in the 2nd session, I rate our result positive today as we showed a good pace. We had a good first session, we were in the top ten, but in the second part of qualifying we were just really unlucky.

I locked the wheels in front of the chicane and then red flags appeared on the track at the wrong time, then it started to rain again, so I just didn’t have a second chance to get a better lap.

It’s a shame we didn’t manage to show a better result today, but I hope for tomorrow.”

Mike KrakTeam leader: “Starting from 9th position in tomorrow’s sprint is a good performance for Sebastian, this result is encouraging for the whole team after failed performances in the previous stages.

Sebastian did everything right, reacted well to changing conditions, showed good results in the first two sessions and was ready to fight for higher positions, but he was prevented by numerous red flags in the qualifying final.

Lance was especially unlucky when the fight was interrupted by red flags in the second session. It looks like he was competitive in qualifying, so tomorrow he will give it another try and I’m sure he will attack with full force.

Finally, I would like to commend and thank the race team that works here at Imola and the support team that works at the Silverstone base. It is always difficult to adapt to changing circumstances, but it is while solving such problems that people try their best.

Everyone did a great job today and now we are ready to prepare for tomorrow’s sprint.”
