In Miami, Lewis Hamilton, who will drive for Ferrari next year, was asked if he wanted to work with Adrian Newey…
Lewis Hamilton: “I would really like that. Working with Newey is a true privilege. Adrian has a fantastic racing history and track record. He has had tremendous success with several teams in his career and the knowledge he has can make a big difference. If I had to make a list of people I would like to work with, he would probably be at the top.
When I joined McLaren I drove a car that was once made by him, but gradually evolved. I was proud to touch something Newey was working on.
In recent years the cars he built have been our main rivals. But it is important to remember that a team is a large group where many people work. Now there is no longer one employee who decides everything. But you can imagine what an amazing experience it will be. The people he works with now will continue to build great cars, but any team would be lucky to get the chance to work with him.
Was Newey’s name mentioned during my negotiations with Ferrari? I can’t say that.”
