Just like a week ago, in France three Alfa Romeo drivers worked on the Hungarian Grand Prix on Friday – Guanyu Zhou, Valtteri Bottas and Robert Kubica, who replaced the Finn in the first session. The team greatly appreciated the technical innovations prepared for the Hungarian podium.
Valtteri Bottas (10th): “In the second training session I had time to understand the car and evaluate the innovations we brought to this stage. In terms of grip, we have taken a step forward and are moving in the right direction. The battle in the middle group is, as always, very tight, so even a small improvement can give an advantage. I know I have the potential to improve, so I’m happy with the work done – a good start.
Tomorrow the weather may change, but we have prepared for all circumstances. In general, the balance of the car is not bad and I think we can be in a good place on Sunday.”
Guanyu Zhou (12th): “The day went pretty smoothly – we made a step forward in the afternoon compared to the first session, although there is still a lot to do in the evening to prepare for Saturday. I hope we will perform better in qualifying compared to the previous stages, but now we can say that we are looking good.
Today, in warm weather, we had fewer problems than at the Paul Ricard circuit. I think a fine adjustment of the settings is enough to be ready on Saturday.
As usual the middle group is very tight, so we have to squeeze the most out of the car to get to the second part of qualifying – that’s our goal.
Robert Kubica (19th in first practice): “It’s always great and exciting to get behind the wheel again, because you always learn something. I worked the second weekend in a row in Friday practice – the track conditions were different, we have did several tests and learned something new Overall the team has done well.
This weekend we have some new products, so it was important not to damage the car, but I still enjoyed it. I ran a series on hard tires and then switched to soft ones. It’s never easy to switch from one lineup to another right away, but it went well.”
