Mercedes chief engineer Andrew Shovlin is satisfied with the performance of the new products in Miami, but the rivals are also not standing still…
Andy Shovlin: “We have brought about half of the prepared new products to Miami, the rest will be delivered to Imola. They worked about as well as we hoped. The problem is that rivals are also developing their cars – everyone has seen McLaren’s progress and success.
The handling problems faced by our racers do not allow us to say that the new products have allowed us to take a step forward. As a rule, we see that the machine behaves completely differently from session to session. Until we know this, we cannot expect real progress.
Based on the results of the past races, we have a clear idea of what needs to be done with the car to make it more comfortable for the drivers, so that it can be 100% trusted and attacked in qualifying. In the next three to four races we will be showing some promising new products. We are working hard and I hope we will see the fruits of it soon.”
