Not so long ago, Pierre Gasly had the opportunity to drive the Toleman TG183 – Ayrton Senna’s first car, in which the future three-time world champion made his debut in Formula 1 – his first race was the 1984 Brazilian Grand Prix.
The Alpine driver’s unique experience 40 years later will be the subject of a separate story on Sky Sports during the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. But Pierre also presented a special version of the helmet that he will wear next weekend in Imola – one look is enough to understand that the helmet is dedicated to the memory of the great Brazilian.
“At Imola I will pay tribute to one of the best Formula 1 drivers of all time, one of my idols,” said Gasly. – The special design of my helmet is dedicated to Ayrton’s legacy. His example inspired me from the early days when I first started karting, and a few days ago I had the opportunity and special privilege: at Silverstone I got behind the wheel of his very first Formula 1 car.
It was an incredible experience, I felt an indescribable feeling when I was driving his car and I was wearing this special helmet. I got a sense of what the racers of those years experienced – and it was a feeling and a day I will never forget. Thanks to everyone who made this possible.
In addition, the helmet will be auctioned after the race in Imola and the proceeds will be transferred to the Ayrton Senna Institute and used to support educational programs for Brazilian children.”
