In a month’s time, several great events will take place in Monaco: the Formula E stage has already taken place at the end of April, the Historic Grand Prix is now in full swing and on May 26 the legendary city circuit will host the classic Formula 1 race , for which they prepare in a special way.
First of all, the opening of a new pit complex at the entrance to the pit lane coincides with the Monaco Grand Prix. In addition to garages, this 5-storey building also has a guest area for the VIP public.
The structure is notable because it is much higher than the old mine building, which has only three floors. The building was called Garage 1 and was partly used during the Formula E stage.
There are offices on the second and third floors and everything above is designed as a comfortable guest area. By the way, it is thanks to Garage 1 that there will be a place in the pit lane for the 11th team, when and if one appears in Formula 1.
From the upper floors and the terrace there are beautiful views of the pit lane, the harbor and the part of the track that runs near the swimming pool.
Prince Albert II has already visited Garage 1, so we can say that the opening has actually taken place. The project lasted two years, but was based on original technology: the building design consists of 45 modules, mounted on five platforms. According to Ronan Le Gallou, who is responsible for the circuit’s infrastructure, “it’s like a Lego set, but big.”
Last September, the decisive phase of construction began in the French city of Nantes, and first all modules were assembled and thoroughly tested, then they were transported to Monaco and installed in a new location in just a few nights. This work was carried out by 30 people.
“We wanted our circuit to meet the standards that all new circuits meet, and all of us involved in this project are really proud of it,” concluded Le Gallou.
