Newey finished 4th in the Historic Monaco Grand Prix

The question of what Adrian Newey will do after leaving Red Bull Racing has already been partially answered: he will race historic cars for his own pleasure. The famous designer is competing in the Monaco Historic Grand Prix this weekend, and the Category D race has just concluded, in which Newey took part at the wheel of a Lotus 49B, a 1968 car.

Category D includes vehicles produced between 1966 and 1972, and Newey’s Lotus was the oldest of all to compete in this race. Of course, the speed of this car, in which Graham Hill once raced, is difficult to compete with, for example, the Lotus 72 – the victory went to the Japanese Katsu Kubota, who competed in just such a car of the 1972 model.

It is true that Adrian Newey was unlucky at the start: due to a malfunction in the equipment produced more than half a century ago, he did not start immediately, but then fought the race in a combative manner and finished fourth. They say this is his best performance at the historic Monaco Grand Prix, where Newey is not performing for the first time, although this was made possible by retirements and mistakes from several rivals. But this is no longer so important.
