Jake Dennis, Andretti driver and reigning world champion, won qualifying in Berlin on Sunday and will start from pole in the second race of the weekend.
Yesterday he was unlucky: firstly, the Andretti car clearly did not have enough speed, and secondly, he did not reach the finish at all and was not classified, but today the picture has completely changed. First Dennis reached the final stages of qualifying and then completed a lap 0.231 seconds faster than Nick Cassidy, the Jaguar driver who won yesterday’s race.
Interestingly, in the semi-finals Cassidy defeated his partner, Mitch Evans, and Dennis in turn defeated Norman Nato, with whom he has been competing for Andretti since this year. This is also Jake’s first pole of the season, and he has already received three bonus points for it, somewhat strengthening his position in the individual competition of the electric series, where he takes 4th place.
Today, Nato and Evans will start from the second row of the grid on the circuit created through the territory of the old Berlin Templehof Airport, from the third – Stoffel Vandoorne in a DS Penske and Max Günther in a Maserati.
Jean-Eric Vergne, Vandon’s teammate, who took 2nd place on Saturday, showed a 9th result in qualifying on Sunday – Cassidy started from this position yesterday, which did not stop him from winning the first race of the weekend.
