Last weekend Berlin hosted a double round of the World Electric Car Racing Championship, and today the official tests of newcomers to Formula E began on the circuit on the territory of the old Templehof airport.
All eleven teams of the electric series have chosen two racers, who will have to demonstrate their speed capabilities and their ability to adapt to equipment that is not the most familiar to them. It is likely that some of them will choose Formula E as one of their main activities in the future.
Some of these drivers already have experience driving such cars in previous tests, but the main requirements are: they cannot be included in the official entry list for the 10th season of Formula E, i.e. current championship. Among them should not be those who have already participated in the electric series in recent seasons. In addition, they must have an FIA category E license, i.e. giving the right to drive electric racing vehicles.
Here is the full list of participants in the tests in Berlin:
Andretti – Zane Maloney and Jack Crawford
DS Penske – Johnny Edgar and Robert Schwartzman
Imagine racing – Alice Powell and Dres Vantur
Mahindra Racing – Frederick Vesty and Kush Maini
Nissan – Ciao Collet and Gabriele Mini
ERT – Marta Garcia and Mikel Azcona
McLaren – Ugo Ugochukwu and Grégoire Sosi
Porsche – Thomas Preining and Dennis Hauger
ABT Cupra – Tim Tramnitz and Ricardo Feller
Jaguar Racing – Sheldon van der Linde and Enzo Fittipaldi
Maserati Racing –Felie Drugovich and Niko Pino.
Work on the track had already started and during the first hour Robert Schwartzman, who had already worked with DS Penske during the April tests in Misano, was in first place for some time, then Maloney was ahead of him, but the Russian driver , which competed under an Israeli license, quickly took the lead again in terms of protocol. It is quite possible to assume that Robert, with his rich professional experience, will be one of the fastest racers based on the test results.
