Ricciardo: The team is waiting for a home race!

RB is happy with the start of the European part of the season, especially as it starts with the team’s home phase…

Daniel Ricciardo: “The team will have a home race, the week will be more eventful than usual, but it’s good – there is an opportunity to visit the base, see the employees, understand how everything is going. We travel around the world all the time, we don’t have many opportunities to meet each other, but when we do it’s always a lot of fun.

The first European stage of this year is just around the corner. We are again located in the Energy Station, a familiar environment awaits us. There are some great circuits in Europe, I like going back to the classics, I’m looking forward to the next series of races, which starts in Imola. This is an interesting and difficult circuit, fast and quite narrow, where it is always interesting to participate in qualifying. You literally attack the edge and throw the car on the curb.

There is an opportunity to overtake, but on old circuits it is always more difficult. You have to act aggressively, which only increases the excitement. In 2020 I enjoyed performing at Imola. I look forward to returning.”

Yuki Tsunoda: “Imola stands for! For me this is like a second home race. Unfortunately we couldn’t race here last year due to flooding, but I’m very happy to be back.

The flood had enormous consequences, there was mud everywhere, people lost everything they had: houses, things, property. It is incredible how the city and the region of Emilia-Romagna recovered from the floods, how people worked together to clear the roads, how they helped each other. My house wasn’t damaged, but I couldn’t stay away. I grabbed a shovel and went to the city center, where I helped clean the streets.

Imola is 15 kilometers from my house. I prepare breakfast myself, with yogurt, fruit and cappuccino from the coffee machine. Twenty minutes later I’m on the track in my racing suit, getting ready to get in the car and heading home for dinner that evening. But this is Grand Prix week!

I really like the process. Technical, with lots of medium-speed corners and chicanes – it’s a bit like the Suzuka, but narrower. It is always a pleasure to perform here, I have many good memories of it. I hope we will achieve good results in front of our employees on base.”
