Williams presented an unusual TV project “Circle of Legends”

Last night saw the premiere of an unusual television project called Lap of Legends: a documentary filmed using virtual reality technology and dedicated to comparing modern Formula 1 with what the world championship looked like in previous eras.

This is a Williams project, carried out with the support of the beer brand Michelob Ultra, and its essence is that Logan Sargent competes on the track with six motorsport stars who have competed for and are known for the Frank Williams team over the years acquired. During the 15-lap race at Silverstone, Sargent will battle not only Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill, Jacques Villeneuve and Jenson Button, but also Mario Andretti, the 1978 world champion, who only drove one race for Williams.

To create such a film, dedicated to the rich history of the Grove team and Formula 1 in general, the creators had to analyze more than 1,200 hours of film and television footage filmed during the 720 Grand Prix, and then this information was used to reproduce the speeds. and driving styles as accurately as possible these champions of recent years and the tactics of fighting on the track that characterize them.

A unique augmented reality helmet was developed for Sargent, thanks to which the American racer was immersed in the virtual world, where the main events of the film took place. During the filming process at Silverstone, 28 cameras were used, four of which were installed on Logan’s car, and drones hovered over the famous British circuit. There were also cameras installed at every turn.

Circle of Legends also stars Jenson Button and Naomi Schiff, a former women’s W Series driver who now works as a TV presenter for Sky Sports. It is in this role that she participates in the film together with the 2009 world champion.

The film premiered abroad, but it will also reportedly be shown in 28 countries around the world.
