Oliver Berman has been named as the leading candidate to replace Nico Hulkenberg at Haas next season. The British driver will hold his first training session at Imola and replace Kevin Magnussen, but says he is not guaranteed a contract with Haas until 2025.
Oliver Berman: “Of course I see my opportunity, but the fact that a place becomes available in the team does not mean that I will take it. I still have to earn it with good performances in Formula 2 and six Friday training sessions.
I have to perform well and show that I am ready to compete in Formula 1 next year. I haven’t set any goals for myself. The pressure mainly comes from myself.
I am behind in the individual Formula 2 competition, but anything is possible. The European part of the season is starting and I know the circuits. The team and I understand the car better and better, so I see no reason why I can’t compete for the Formula 2 title.
I am motivated to achieve this, but six practice sessions in Formula 1 are a great opportunity to show my talent. However, I don’t attach more importance to it than to performance in Formula 2, because I have to show that I can fight in races. Formula 1 is not just about being able to set the fastest time, it is 50/50.”
