Last week it was reported that Audi had given Carlos Sainz until Monaco to accept or reject their contract offer. At Imola, the Spanish Ferrari driver commented on these rumors.
Carlos Sainz: “I hope we can take a step forward this weekend with new products. However, I believe that our ability to fight against Red Bull mainly depends on the characteristics of the track.
In Miami we were in a good position, but McLaren and Red Bull were still one step ahead. However, unlike in China, the car drove well, while in Shanghai we didn’t look our best. All this suggests that the balance of power depends on the track, and in Imola the race track should suit us. It would be ideal if we could please the fans with a great show.
As for the rest, we will continue to work to ensure that the problems we encountered in China are not repeated. The car has problems with the kind of corners we had in Shanghai and we have to solve that.”
When asked how soon I can expect news of a signed contract for 2025, Carlos replied: “Don’t worry – as soon as I have news, you will know right away.
I think it will take some time. The situation is not developing too quickly.”
