Max Verstappen recorded the seventh fastest time in the second training session at Imola, losing more than five-tenths of a second to session leader Charles Leclerc. The current world champion admitted that Red Bull Racing is currently lagging behind.
His partner Sergio Perez finished the training with the eighth fastest time.
Max Verstappen (7th): “Difficult day. The balance left a lot to be desired and I didn’t feel comfortable enough behind the wheel. The car behaved unstable – in such a situation it was easy to lose control. There are certainly areas we need to work on, because today things just went poorly.
The speed during the long series of laps was also poor. If we want to be competitive tomorrow, we have to improve in several areas.
Lewis’s actions when he interfered with me? This isn’t the first time this has happened, and now it has happened again. Honestly, I don’t want to talk too much about this topic because it’s not our problem. Our problem today was the lack of speed and this problem needs to be solved.
I think today could have been worse, but we will look tomorrow at some areas where we can improve. Now it seems like our opponents are one step ahead and we had a bad day.”
