Yuki Tsunoda showed the third result in the second training session at Imola and estimates his chances of qualifying in the top ten quite high. His teammate RB Daniel Ricciardo set the eleventh fastest time and also hopes to reach the final, although he noted that he is not completely satisfied with the settings.
Yuki Tsunoda (3rd): “I am satisfied. We had a successful day and the car was consistent from the first lap of the first session, so I’m excited about the coming days on our home lap.
We’re back to a normal weekend schedule and it makes me feel less stressed knowing I have time to make progress and gradually build up the pace. At the same time, we had the speed from the first lap and we just have to keep going and get the most out of the car.
There is a good chance that you will finish in the top ten in qualifying, but anything can happen because the battle in the middle of the pack is very tight, so you have to stay focused.
Of course I aim for the highest possible position, but at the same time I am focused on unlocking the car’s speed potential.”
Daniel Ricciardo (11th): “I’m happy to return to a normal weekend format. Previously, when I posted the eleventh fastest time, I usually felt like I had done a good lap, but today that is not the case. I keep looking for opportunities to go faster on this track. I’m having problems in some corners and we definitely need to improve the settings.
We will make some adjustments tonight and in tomorrow’s training we will evaluate whether the settings have allowed us to improve in the areas where we can do so.
I am positive because I think we are in good shape. Yuki proved this with his excellent lap in the second session. We don’t know what our opponents are planning, but our goal is to be fast enough to reach the final.”
