Video: Spectacular practice crash in Indianapolis

During yesterday’s practice in Indianapolis, as the IndyCar Series teams prepared for upcoming qualifying for the 500-mile classic, a spectacular accident took place, images of which were circulated in the world’s motorsports publications.

The accident was caused by a mistake by Nolan Siegel, a 19-year-old rookie from Dale Coyne Racing: in Turn 2 of the oval, he lost control of the car, which turned 180 degrees before hitting the bump in the corner. the front left corner and then took off, turned around, crashed into the road and stopped with the wheels up.

Rescuers arrived at the scene of the accident very quickly, as is always the case on American ovals, but they had to make significant efforts to return the badly damaged car to its normal position and help Siegel get out of the cockpit. Fortunately he was not injured.

“To be honest, I don’t know what happened there,” said the young racer from California. – In the middle of the track, the rear wheels suddenly started to deviate from the trajectory, I tried to correct the slip, but the car turned. I won’t say exactly why this happened. I’m upset, I’m ashamed of the team that prepared for so long and put in so much effort, and I ruined everything.

But we have to move forward. Let’s see if we can get back into action and participate in the qualifiers. We will probably have to prepare a spare car, and it is not yet clear how everything will go. I’m doing well and can get behind the wheel again, but I apologize to everyone…’
