Ferrari has prepared a very large-scale series of technical innovations for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, and during training the riders of the Italian team noted that this worked quite effectively.
According to Jock Klea, Scuderia’s chief racing engineer, the new products help further exploit the potential of the SF-24, an already quite fast car.
“This is an organic consequence of the process of modernizing the machine,” Klia explains. “From the very beginning of the season we knew in which direction the chassis improvements would go, because this direction was chosen in advance and we will stick to it.
When Charles talks about the car’s shortcomings, it is clear that now, with six races behind us, we have identified some weaknesses. But if the chassis has good potential, these weaknesses will no longer be more apparent. In general, when refining the car, we always adhere to a certain direction, and of course we can do something to eliminate these weak points, but for this it is enough to look for the optimal settings.
Figuratively speaking, in the process of natural modernization of the car, we try to make its behavior more “palatable” for the racers, more “chocolate-like.” We also continue to work with the institutions and there are also positive changes in this area.
All this is aimed at making the settings more effective, allowing us to more fully exploit the car’s potential and better understand the shortcomings we identified during the first six races.
But all year round, as always, the work goes in two directions at once, and we always try to increase the contact patch of the tires with the track, in particular by working with aerodynamics and achieving an increase in vertical load.
In general, everything is simple: we have introduced a more efficient aerodynamic body kit, but we also always continue to work on the settings in parallel. I think we have learned a few things in the previous two races and that will also help us attack more this weekend.”
