Australian pilot “McLaren” Oscar Piastri will lose three places on the starting grid for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, Italy, reports the press service of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).
Piastri finished qualifying in second place, behind only reigning Formula 1 champion and season leader Max Verstappen. After the finish of the race, the stewards reviewed the episode that occurred in the first segment between the Australian and Haas driver Kevin Magnussen. The judges concluded that Piastri had blocked his opponent in the first set of corners after leaving the pits, while the Dane was putting in a fast lap.
Piastri will now drop to fifth place on the grid at Imola, behind teammate Lando Norris and Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix race will take place on Sunday, May 19 from 4:00 p.m. Moscow time.
