Ferrari prepares for battle against Mercedes and Red Bull Racing

Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc set the second and third fastest times in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Both Ferrari drivers are not happy with their results as they think they could have done better and took pole. The team is preparing for an intense race against Mercedes and Red Bull Racing.

Carlos Sainz (2nd): “I’m not too happy with the result, because I think I could have done better in the last attempt. However, I prefer to focus on the positive: we have a good starting position, I am comfortable in the car all weekend and we are moving in the right direction. I’m sure we can repeat the good pace we showed on Friday in the race.

Congratulations George on the first pile. He put in a very good lap and I’m looking forward to fighting with him tomorrow.”

Charles Leclerc (3rd): “Not the best session. It was very difficult to warm up the tires in such conditions – I couldn’t get them into the working range, especially in the final. The car has speed, but we know that there is still a lot of work to be done. I am sure we will be stronger tomorrow.

Congratulations to George – the first pile is always special!”

Laurent Mekis, sports director: “Unusual qualification. The morning rain washed away the rubber layer from the asphalt and the temperature was a lot lower than yesterday. In a way I had to start all over again.

Carlos and Charles made progress during the session and in the end, as we expected, everything was decided in thousandths of a second. We thought we would fight Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, but George Russell won pole, just ahead of Carlos. Our congratulations to him and his team.

Overall, we are satisfied with today’s result – the good work of the team, which allows us to count on the maximum result in the race. We will analyze everything on the track and at the base in Maranello – the same weather is expected in the race as today and we are not very happy with the current form. I expect an exciting fight between the three teams – we want to be in the middle of the matter.”
