Pirelli’s predictions came true: despite the softer compounds, most drivers completed the race at Imola with one pit stop…
Mario IsolaPirelli: “The fight was very close, although without particularly exciting moments, but towards the end it became lively when Norris approached Verstappen. Overtaking at Imola has always been difficult, and this year was no exception.
The one-stop strategy was, as expected, the fastest and was used by the majority of drivers, who drove the first stint on Medium and the second on Hard. Both compounds performed well, although the leading group of riders attacked throughout the race and the track temperature fluctuated from 43 to 50 degrees.
The predicted pit stop window proved accurate: those who changed tires too early found themselves in a difficult position towards the end of the race. But the degradation turned out to be small and there were no signs of granulation of the tires.
I would like to thank the wonderful crowd at Imola who were traditionally passionate and once again put on a great show in the stands which I am sure the drivers and teams enjoyed.”
