Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly finished fourteenth and sixteenth at Imola. Alpine drivers admitted that they could not expect a higher result due to the speed of the car.
Esteban Ocon (14th): “If we earned points in the last stage in Miami, we didn’t earn them today. We have serious pacing issues; the car didn’t have enough speed on the straights. This meant I could neither defend nor attack. It cost us a lot of money and the team didn’t earn any points.
We will try to analyze the last race and understand what we can do better next time. Fortunately, there will be a new attempt next week. We definitely need more updates to the car, that is essential.”
Pierre Gasly (16th): “In the first part of the race I was only a few seconds behind Nico Hulkenberg and Yuki Tsunoda, and finished far behind them. Not the best day – we have to analyze everything to understand what exactly we missed.
The car drove well all weekend, but unfortunately a mistake in qualifying cost me dearly. I don’t want to go into too much detail, but today we lost sight of the big picture and unfortunately we were not able to perform well. Together with the team we will analyze everything to understand what could have been done better.”
