Albon: I understand why I got the fine

The Williams drivers did not earn any points at Imola. Logan Sargent finished 17th and the team removed Alex Albon from the race…

Logan Sargent (17th): “The day turned out to be difficult. Overtaking in Imola is difficult, you are stuck in a group of cars using DRS, where in the disrupted airflow behind other cars it is difficult to control the condition of the tires.

Moreover, in the second stint I had to let other cars pass because of blue flags, which meant I lost more and more. But we showed a good pace on the free track, which is positive.”

Alex Albon (departure): “After problems with the wheel mounting, we used the race as a test session to experiment with the brakes on long series.

Coming out of the pit stop I didn’t feel any problem, but when I turned off the speed limiter there was a vibration and I knew something was wrong. I knew the tire wouldn’t fall off because it only went up to a certain point, it was safe, but I understand why I got fined.

Despite the bad day, it’s not all doom and gloom. We have a plan and the mid-group teams don’t earn many points, so we’re not too far behind and can catch up. Last year we only had one point at this stage.

Although we are not planning large-scale updates and are focused on reducing the weight of the machine, we will still strive for small improvements. We will draw conclusions and concentrate on preparing for Monaco.”
