Taking into account the loss of time in the pit lane of the Hungarian circuit and the characteristics of the tires, Pirelli considers the strategy of one or two pit stops to be about equal in speed.
If you choose one pit stop, you can go from Soft to Hard or from Medium to Hard (requiring less control over the condition of the tires in the starting segment). Most riders will probably choose this strategy to maintain their position on the track.
But two pit stops is a good option, very close to one pit stop on time. In this case, the optimal options are: Soft – Medium – Medium, but even more interesting – Soft – Medium – Soft, which promises an advantage in the last segment, when there is less fuel in the tanks.
Mario IsolaPirelli: “Congratulations to George Russell on his first pole position – he put in a perfect lap at just the right time to secure first place at the start of tomorrow’s race.
The day was not easy due to the constantly changing conditions. And although qualifying was held on a dry track, the forecast for tomorrow remains uncertain about precipitation, but the day will be cool.
The rain that had passed on Saturday morning washed away a layer of used rubber from the tarmac, so we already saw a change in the track condition during qualifying. In such a situation it was important to be the last to start the fastest lap to show a good result.”
