Lewis Hamilton: We’re missing two or three tenths

The Mercedes team brought technical innovations to Imola, but Lewis Hamilton finished the race thirty-five seconds behind the winner. After the finish, the seven-time world champion said that the updates had virtually no effect.

Lewis Hamilton: “The new things didn’t matter that much. Yes, it was a step forward, but a very, very small step. My pace in the second stint was comparable to that of the guys at the front, but we were still two to three tenths short.”

At the same time, Lewis added that his lead at the finish would have been smaller had he not made the mistake of flying off the track in Acque Minerali.

“I lost about five seconds at this start,” continues the Mercedes driver. “Then I came back behind Fernando Alonso and lost another three seconds behind him. So the total loss was about eight seconds. The situation is not ideal, but at least I have not lost my position.”
