During the race weekend in Imola, events were held to commemorate the deaths of Roland Ratzenberg and Ayrton Senna. At the initiative of Sebastian Vettel, the drivers took part in a race around the circuit on Thursday and on Sunday the four-time world champion drove a few laps behind the wheel of Senna’s 1993 McLaren MP4/8.
After the races, Sebastian spoke to the press and was asked if he had a desire to return to Formula 1.
“I don’t plan on it now,” said Vettel when asked about a possible return to Formula 1. “I miss a lot of things about the sport and had to make a difficult decision, but I am happy.
I feel privileged to have had such a career, life and support. But I don’t wake up in the morning thinking I miss those moments when I was on stage and people were chanting my name. I look at my life realistically and look for new challenges.
Yes, there are things I miss, but there are also things I don’t miss – it’s always a compromise. Formula 1 currently has a very busy schedule due to the large number of races. Of course I thought about returning and I knew in advance that I would think about it, but nothing has changed – I am still happy with my decision.”
