Qualification
After winning qualifying at Imola, Max Verstappen took the 39th pole of his career, the seventh of the season and the eighth in a row. Verstappen equaled Ayrton Senna’s record of eight consecutive pole positions and Alain Prost’s record of seven consecutive pole positions since the start of the season.
Oscar Piastri took part in Imola for the first time and achieved the second fastest time in qualifying, but was penalized with the loss of three places. Lando Norris started the race in second and lost less than a tenth of the pole time. This is McLaren’s first front row start at Imola since Kimi Raikkonen in 2005.
George Russell qualified sixth, Mercedes’ first top-six start since the opening race of the season in Bahrain.
Daniel Ricciardo reached the qualifying final for the first time this season.
Sergio Perez qualified eleventh and missed qualifying for the first time this season.
Esteban Ocon’s 12th place is Alpine’s best result this season.
After qualifying 13th, Lance Stroll defeated teammate Fernando Alonso for the third time this season – and for the second time in a row.
For the fourth race in a row, Alex Albon qualified 14th.
For the fourth time this season, Valtteri Bottas qualified 16th.
Fernando Alonso dropped out of the race in the first part of qualifying for only the second time since moving to Aston Martin – after Austin in 2023.
Race
After winning the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, Max Verstappen achieved the 59th victory of his career and the fifth of the season. This is the 32nd victory of his career from pole position.
The Dutchman scored the 104th podium of his career, beating Kimi Raikkonen to take sixth place in the rankings.
Lando Norris finished second. In the last three races he came first or second. This is the 17th podium of his career and the ninth on the second step. This is McLaren’s best finish at Imola since Raikkonen finished second at the 2003 San Marino Grand Prix.
Leclerc finished the race third: Ferrari’s first podium at Imola since Michael Schumacher’s victory in 2006.
Oscar Piastri finished fourth for the third time this season, but was not yet on the podium this year.
Carlos Sainz finished fifth in the third race in a row.
Lewis Hamilton finished sixth, just like two weeks ago in Miami – this is his best result of the season.
Sergio Perez’s eighth place is his worst result this year.
